Bay window - A bay window is a window space projecting outward from the main walls of a building and forming a bay in a room, either square or polygonal in plan. The angles most commonly used are 90, 45 and 30 degrees.
Bow window - A bow window, whether at White's or in Sherlock Holmes's apartment, is not a bay window. A bow window is a rectangular one with an arched section of wedge-shaped panes on top: "bow" as in "rainbow.
Curtain - A curtain (also known as a drape or drapery) is a piece of cloth intended to block or obscure light. Curtains are often hung on the inside of a building's window to block the travel of light, for instance at night to aid sleeping, or to stop light from escaping outside the building (stopping people outside from being able to see inside, often for privacy reasons).
